Property Bubble Sentiment

Housing Demand

The 'Demand For Housing' section of Homefacts.ie is by far the most shockingly misleading information on the site. In fact it's downright irresponsible.

It claims to explain how much housing demand will grow in the coming years. The question of whether demand will grow isn't considered, it's just a matter of how much it will grow.

There are two types of evidence used for the expected growth in demand. Evidence that might have made sense in 2006 but doesn't any more, and evidence that never made any sense at all.

Even the evidence that might have made sense in 2006 was out of date by the time the site was launched in 2008. That didn't deter the CIF. The subsequent collapse of house prices and demand hasn't been enough to convince them to update their site.

Trying to trick people into buying in todays market by presenting evidence from 2006 is nothing more than a con. It frankly should be illegal.

The CIF has attempted to convince readers that there is still a demand for new houses and therefore it's safe to buy.

At best this is spin, but that's too generous. This is a cynical attempt to con more young couples into feeding the property pyramid scheme.

The evidence is clear. Even as the CIF's claims have one by one proven to be nonsense, they have refused to remove them from their site.

Let's look at the "evidence" for growth in demand for housing and see if we can bring it up to date.
